Ingredients
- 1/2 c.
(1 stick) unsalted butter, cut into pieces, plus more for baking pan
- 1 c.
all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
- 1/4 c.
unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp.
baking powder
- 1/2 tsp.
kosher salt
- 8 oz.
semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, chopped
- 1 1/4 c.
sugar
- 3
large eggs
- 12
chocolate Milano cookies, 1/3 cut off of one end of each cookie
Black food-safe marker or royal icing

Directions
- Step 1Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter a 9- by 9-inch baking pan. Line with parchment paper, leaving a 2-inch overhang on two sides; butter parchment. Whisk together flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
- Step 2Place butter and chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Place bowl over a pot of simmering water. Cook, stirring often, until melted; remove bowl from heat. Add sugar and stir to combine. Add eggs and stir to combine. Add flour mixture and stir to combine. Transfer to prepared pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 50 to 55 minutes. Cool in pan on a wire rack 15 minutes. Use parchment to lift brownies from pan. Cool completely. Cut into 12 2- by 3-inch rectangles.
- Step 3Decorate Milano cookies with marker or icing to look like headstones. Make a small slit toward one thin end of each brownie. Insert one cookie into each slit. Sprinkle brownies with crushed cookies.
